Bar Tasende. This non pretentious bar, located in the south-east corner of the Solis theather is a traditional place, where long ago the cultural and bohemian Montevideo would meet up. They became famous with the ‘muzza al tacho’, a pizza doe covered in thick real muzzarella and made inside a metal container (tacho) in a wood burning oven.
A simple and austere place, besides a recent paint job, it pretty much maintains the same look and feel that it did many years ago. Some would argue that it’s decaying. I prefer to look at it as a preservation of tradition.
The bar is to this day managed by it’s original owner, mister Tasende. In any case, a must go, at least for honoring tradition and tasting a muzza al tacho.
